How I Built a Repeatable System to Generate Gen X Soft Club Visuals
The Future We Were Promised
Gen X Soft Club is a retro-futurist style name for a late-1990s to early-2000s aesthetic that mixed soft minimalism with urban, slightly futuristic vibes. In simple terms, it looks like “the future,” but calmer, moodier, and more natural than flashy Y2K chrome-and-glitter style.
I love this look. It's having a moment right now. See The Marias' Submarine rollout. I wanted to build a system that could recreate it authentically.. not just vibe-match, but also something repeatable.
Step 1: Collect references.
I started on Pinterest and Cosmos searching Gen X Soft Club and Minimal Futurism album artwork, press photos, editorial images from that era. The common thread was that everything felt expensive, sterile, lonely, cold, soft, and slightly surreal. I downloaded these images so that I can use them as references with ChatGPT.
Step 2: Analyze the visual DNA.
I uploaded the reference photos to ChatGPT and asked it to distill them into a JSON context profile. Instead of a messy paragraph of style notes, I now had a structured document that defined the visual world and its rules. JSON works well for this because it forces clarity and structure, and it's a format LLMs actually understand.
Step 3: Build a meta-prompt.
From the JSON profile, I asked ChatGPT to create a meta-prompt that would automatically generate 12 fresh Gen X Soft Club image prompts for an image model like Nano Banana Pro in a frictionless way. Totally unique shots. Not recreations of the reference images, new scenes that follow the same visual logic.
The meta-prompt defines the aesthetic rules: color palette, camera language, subject language, location types. It also sets strict output requirements. Every generated prompt has to specify scene location, subject or absence of subject, architectural materials, lighting source, color palette, lens feel, composition, texture degradation, and negative constraints. An engine that outputs specific, aesthetic-locked shots.
Step 4: Generate inside Nano Banana Pro.
I opened a fresh thread in ChatGPT, pasted the meta-prompt, and got 12 text-to-image prompts back. Copied them straight into Nano Banana Pro.
I used Nano Banana Pro inside of Higgsfield.
Check out some results below.
Prompt System
Gen X Soft Club Prompt System
A reusable system for generating original image prompts built around early-2000s luxury futurism, frosted glass interiors, cyan-green light, and soft digital music-video texture.
Built to preserve the visual logic without copying the reference images. Paste it into ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, or any long-context writing model, then generate 12 clean image prompts for your preferred image model.
